Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 26, 2026
RodNote ("we", "our", or "the App") is a fishing journal application for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Apple, we receive your name, email address, and a unique user identifier. Apple may provide a private relay email if you choose to hide your address. We store this information to maintain your account.
Fishing Session Data
You create and store fishing session records including timestamps, rod configurations, event logs (casts, bites, catches), and text notes. This data is yours and is stored to provide the core journaling functionality.
Location Data
With your permission, the App accesses your device location to mark fishing spots on the map. Location data is associated with your sessions and stored locally and on our servers. You can change the session location manually at any time. We do not track your location in the background.
Photos
With your permission, the App accesses your camera and photo library to attach images to session events. Photos are stored locally on your device and synced to our servers as part of your session data.
Weather Data
The App retrieves weather information for your fishing location from third-party weather services (OpenWeatherMap) via our server infrastructure. Your approximate location coordinates are sent to obtain this data.
Device Information
When you submit a problem report, we collect device model, iOS version, and app version to help diagnose issues. This information is sent only when you explicitly choose to submit a report.
Analytics
We use third-party analytics services to understand how the App is used and to improve it. These services may collect anonymized usage data such as screen views, feature usage frequency, and app performance metrics. No personally identifiable information is shared with analytics providers.
AI Assistant
When you use the AI assistant feature, your session context and messages are sent to our servers for processing by a large language model. We do not use your conversations to train AI models. AI responses are generated in real time and are not stored beyond the current session context.
How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide and maintain the fishing journal functionality
- Sync your data across devices
- Display weather conditions for your fishing locations
- Power the AI assistant feature
- Diagnose and fix technical issues
- Improve the App based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored locally on your device (SQLite) and synced to our cloud servers (Supabase, hosted on AWS) when an internet connection is available. The App is designed to work fully offline; cloud sync happens automatically when connectivity is restored.
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS) for all data transfers and encrypted storage on our servers.
Data Retention and Deletion
Your data is retained as long as you maintain an active account. You can delete your account at any time from the Profile screen in the App. When you delete your account:
- All your data is removed from our servers
- Your local data is cleared from the device
- Your Apple sign-in token is revoked
This process is irreversible.
Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services:
- Apple Sign-In — authentication (Apple's privacy policy applies)
- Supabase — cloud data storage and synchronization
- OpenWeatherMap — weather data
- Analytics provider — anonymized usage analytics
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data (available in the App)
- Export your data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Withdraw consent for location or photo access (via iOS Settings)
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the App or by other means. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
